About Minas Gerais

Minas Gerais is one of the largest states of Brazil and has several amazing ecological destinations. Starting from the capital, Belo Horizonte, considered a ‘garden city’, surrounded by squares and parks, lookouts and mountain ranges, with several green areas ideal for hiking and eco-tours. In the southern part of the city you can take a broad view of the "Horizons of the City", with amazing lookout points at the Pope's Square in Mangabeiras Park and the slopes of Serra do Curral. Belo Horizonte also offers an extensive infrastructure with spas, gyms and vegan restaurants.

Starting from the capital Belo Horizonte, Serra do Cipo is a perfect place for those who want to be immersed in nature. Serra do Cipo is irrigated by Cipo river and its tributaries, forming beautiful backwaters, rapids and waterfalls, being a great place for rafting, buoy-cross or canoeing. There are several trails through the woods that lead to beautiful lookouts points and waterfalls. The region is located in the southern portion of Serra do Espinhaço, a mountain range rich in minerals that crosses the state of Minas Gerais and part of Bahia.

Another attraction of the park is the canyon of Flags, a corridor of rock walls accompanying the river rapids. 325km from Belo Horizonte is Serra da Canastra Park, with 200 hectares of protected area with a great biodiversity of flora and fauna of the Brazilian Cerrado, like the giant anteater, maned wolf and giant armadillo. In the park is located the source of the River San Francisco, one of the most important rivers in Brazil, which covers four states to its mouth in Alagoas.

The first fall of the river, with 186m is Waterfall D'Anta, the postcard of Serra da Canastra. At the top are also found ruins of historic buildings that were used by the farmers who inhabited the region in the nineteenth century. The lookout point is the perfect place for panoramic observation of the region.

Located on the border of Minas Gerais with Espirito Santo state is the Caparaó National Park, home to endangered species such as mono-coal dealer, the maned wolf and the pampas deer. The park is located in a mountainous region, comprising part of the Serra do Mar and Serra da Mantiqueira. Its highest peak is the Pico da Bandeira, the third highest in Brazil, with 2.890m of altitude, perfect for trekking and camping.
